If you still have not jumped on the Tik Tok train yet, you may want to rethink that! Tik Tok is a huge growing platform that seems to be a favorite these days amongst everyone. I recently hit a milestone of gaining 10 thousand followers on the app and am sharing my secrets of how I did it. In this post are the strategies to implement and what you should stop doing as well. If you are feeling ready to add Tik Tok into your marketing strategy then get ready for all of the knowledge nuggets below!

Tik Tok was never a major priority in my business but I honestly regret not hitting hard on this app a long time ago because I see so many benefits to this app and I think you will too!

I created my Tik Tok account in April 2020 when the Corona Virus pandemic first started and I decided to just experiment with the app to learn more about it with no real strategy in place.

After what felt like a roller coaster of emotions with this app, deleting it, then re-uploading I finally told myself it was time to get serious and create a legit strategy going forward.

That strategy is what I am going to share with you today.

Finding Your People On Tik Tok

If you think Tik Tok is not where your people are hanging out, you are likely wrong. There are hundreds of thousands of specific communities for just about anyone on the app.

I also want you to get out of the mindset that you have to dance on Tik Tok…. because it’s so far from the truth.

Tik Tok is way more casual than Instagram. On Instagram everyone wants perfectly curated feeds and pretty colors. It’s a lot more image based. But Tik Tok isn’t like that. The videos are often a lot more authentic, simple, and not a full on production. The main types of content people are going on Tik Tok for is entertainment and/or to learn something.

Tik Tok is a great place to make viral content. If you don’t know what I mean by that, check out episode 023 of The Branded Cowgirl Podcast where I break down the 4 different types of content.

You need to use Tik Tok differently than you would use Instagram. Posting one video per day didn’t cut it for me. That meant I had one shot to either have a viral video or not and then wait until the next day. Tik Tok’s algorithm is a lot different than Instagrams – which means it is way easier for your stuff to get seen.

3 Things You Need To Know To Grow Your Tik Tok Account

  1. Find a niche and stick with it
  2. Post 4 times per day
  3. Use trending sounds and songs & make videos that fit with your Niche

Choosing Your Niche On Tik Tok

You want to find one specific topic that is going to be the main idea of your account and stick to that. I decided to scale back on just making random videos and saw which of my videos did the best. From there I decided to just keep making more of those. Even if you make a Tik Tok account that doesn’t directly correlate with your business that is okay. Tik Tok is more of a brand builder than a business builder. Both are equally as important. The videos I make are still serving my audience and transferring people to places like my Instagram.

Let’s say you are a boutique owner, and you sell clothes. You should not make a bunch of videos of you talking about the clothes you sell. You want to provide value. Try making videos about how to style clothing and what colors/patterns to mix, do clothing hauls, and share you outfit inspirations.

If you are a Western brand, such as a ranch wife and your goal is to just document your daily life or share your story then make videos that relate to your daily life. Use your account as a vlog but make sure each video has a specific purpose. Do not use TIK TOK in the same way you would use Instagram stories.

Post 4 Times Per Day

If posting 4 videos a day on Tik Tok feels unrealistic to you – that’s ok! Do what you can! Just know that if you are frustrated that your business isn’t growing fast enough to your standards, there is someone else out there who is just as busy as you, with just as much stuff on their plate, posting 4 times a day.

I don’t mean any of this to come off like you aren’t doing enough so please don’t take it that way. But that kind of tough love talk is what I needed to kick me in the pants and make me realize how much I was complaining about not getting my goals.

The nice thing about Tik tok is that you can batch create videos, and save them in your drafts and post them later on. You could have hundreds of videos stockpiled up, and then all you have to do is post 4 of them per day. It’s a lot of work in the beginning to build up a vault. But once you do it, it’s so easy to just add a few videos to it per day.

Again just remember, these videos don’t have to be full on production. I find it helpful to plan them out ahead of time! Write down the sounds you want to use and what videos you are going to make with each sound. That way when it comes time to film, you can fly through them really quickly.

Use Trending Sounds

Lastly, you want to make sure that you are creating original content but also content that contains trending sounds and songs. You will be able to tell if a song is trending if you scroll through your feed and hear the same song or sound over and over again. This is a great way to get new eyes on your content.

Try to make your videos related to your niche & use the trending sounds because this will help you attract and repel people from your page. The goal is to get your video seen by a bunch of people and have them decide whether or not they want to see more of it from you in the future.

Have fun with this. Tik Tok is easy, it’s relatable, and it’s way more laid back than other social platforms so experiment with different types of content to see what sticks. If you notice certain videos you gain more traction then keep making more of those. Let the people tell you what they want!
