Want to plan my January content calendar with me??

In this video I take you along with me as I plan out my January 2023 content calendar and show you my process for organizing all of my different platforms. Before we jump into the actual planning of my content calendar for January, I want to quickly tell you all the tools I use to organize my calendar.

What I Use To Plan My Content Calendar

Notion

Once upon a time, I used to be a big Trello girl, and I still think Trello is an amazing resource. And I actually have another video talking about how to use Trello. But it didn’t quit work in the exact way my brain needed it to, in order to understand my content plan. I started using Notion at the end of last year and let me tell you, it’s everything I needed and more.

The reason why I love Notion is because it’s fully customizable to how you want it set up. If you prefer lists, calendar view, charts, etc. Notion can make that happen.

It does require some set up before you jump right in, so keep that in mind. But once you understand how to use it, you will never go back to anything else.

I do plan to make more videos in the future of how I got my Notion set up to be what it is, so if that is something you are interested in, let me know in the comments!

iPad

My iPad has also been a big resource for me since the end of last year also. I have always wanted the apple pencil and because I am a spoiled brat of a wife, my husband got it for me. This is not a necessity by any means, but I do love having it and use a note taking app to plan out my content and brain dump things. I’m also a big fan of Procreate for designing my own graphics and such.

Notebook And Pen

Prior to getting my iPad I was a total pen and paper kinda girl. In fact I used to only use a notebook before I even used Notion. I think if you are ballin’ on a budget or not tech savvy, this is a great place to start and get all your ideas out. But I would highly encourage some kind of online platform just for the sake of convenience, as you can take it anywhere you go.

What’s Happening In January 2023?

One of the first things I am going to do when planning for the month of January is think about what is happening this month. I pull out my calendar on google which has everything from business to personal tasks. I check for any holidays, special events first and then I think about what I am going to launch or promote the most this month.

January is a new year, which means most people are starting fresh on things. People use the beginning of the year to get inspired, motivated, and encouraged to go after their goals or get organized. A lot of my content is going to reflect that.

Since I am managing a few different brands, AKA Sarah Elrod, Elrod Ranch, and Branded Cowgirl I like to break these up and plan content for each one by one.

Each brand has it’s own separate Instagram content, but all of it ties into my blog which is my main hub for everything I put out into the world.

My Implementing Strategy

Once I know my general idea for what is happening this month, the next thing I am going to do is come up with content ideas that support it.

I separate my content into 2 categories. Macro and micro content. The Macro content is things like Blogs, Videos and Podcast episodes. Longer form content is what I work on first, then I create micro content to support it.

For the month of January I have 13 Videos to make, and 9 podcast episodes to record.

Which means I need to:

  • write the outlines
  • turn those into blog posts
  • record/film
  • create any graphics or images
  • do the SEO
  • description copy
  • make correlating social media content
  • and so on…

I know this sounds like a lot. And it definitely is, I’m not gonna lie. But the only way I am able to manage all of this is by having a content calendar.

DISCLAIMER: if you are just starting out, I do not recommend trying to do all of this at once. Pick 1-2 platforms and get good at posting on those regularly first before adding on more.

Batch working is a huge life savor too! Once you have your content planned out, You can do things in chunks. I will write all the outlines for 2 weeks worth of videos in one sitting. Then another day I will film all the videos in one sitting. Again with creating graphics and working on SEO etc.

This is a HUGE time savor and allows me to be really productive and get more done instead of trying to make a video start to finish all in one day.
