Are you looking for some Instagram tips for photographers specifically? Well then you have come to the right place! In this episode of the Branded Cowgirl Podcast I am breaking down my top tips that photographers can use to turn their Instagram accounts into a lead converting machine. Ready to dive in? Let’s do it!

Instagram Bio

Your Bio can be broken up into different chunks. Username, profile photo, and your profile name. The handle/username is the name that has the @ symbol in front of it. While your profile name is the bold name listed below your follower count number.

As for the username, that is typically going to be your business name. Let’s say your business is “sunshine photography” then your username would be @sunshinephotography

Keep in mind that your handle/username is searchable. You don’t want it to be long and complicated since this is something people would be typing in to specifically find you. Meaning, they already know you exist and are directly searching for your account.

This is important to know because your profile name serves a different purpose. Your profile name is also searchable but is used more for people that don’t know who they are looking for. In this case we want to make this name different than our username and more specific to our job title. For photographers I would say to list out your location and the type of photographer that you are.

For example: Forth Worth Texas Photographer would be a good profile name. It says what you do and where you are located. That way if someone is looking for a wedding photographer in Fort worth, they are more likely to find you.

Your profile photo should be a photo of yourself, smiling and looking at the camera. Save the creative and artsy photos for your feed. Make it clear what you look like.

The Content

Instagram offers a wide variety of ways to share content these days. But the primary source currently is Instagram REELS. Check out my full episode on REELS HERE!

You do not have to be making reels in order to grow your account, but it does definitely help the process go faster. I know they are not a photographers favorite thing to do, but you have to lean into where society is right now if you want to grow your business.

Let me also quickly just say this about your feed… aesthetic is not everything. Especially now when social media is prioritizing authenticity and less perfection. There are benefits to a pretty feed but it’s not like it used to be so take it with a grain of salt.
