Simple Ways To Spice Up Your Ranch Home Decor This Fall

It’s finally starting to feel like fall around here which means that it’s time to break out all that fall home decor. Yay! Now let’s be honest I am very much a summer girl and I love the warm sunshine.. but decorating my house in the fall and winter takes the cake for me.

I love all the warm, rich color tones and the smells. Do not get me started on the fall scented candles. Is it socially acceptable to burn those all year long?

Anyway, decorating my home has been one of the most fun but also challenging projects. Our little house set back in the outskirts of Reno, Nevada. AKA the middle of the desert. We are on 50 acres, but it is rented land and a rented house. That will be important information when we get to the decorating part!

While we do not plan to be here forever, this is home for now. And I am the type of person who needs my house to feel like home no matter how long I am there for.

For a long time I struggled to find a home decor style that truly felt like my own. I would go back and forth between modern farmhouse and more warm, modern tones.

I always resonated with the southwestern vibes. Cactus, reds, and oranges, pampas grass. You know, the works!

But being in a rental home has brought up some challenges that you wouldn’t have in a house that you own. Such as not being able to paint the walls, or change the tile in your bathroom. Our bathrooms have a horrendous outdated green tile that I cannot stand but we are making it work!

The little inconveniences used to bum me out but now I kinda love the challenge of working with what I have and not being able to make permanent changes.

Plus not to mention, home decor is expensive! And I don’t know about you, but I have to buy these things little by little. So today I am going to show you some of the small details I add into my home decor that makes a big difference. This is specifically going to be catered towards my fall home decor style. But I plan to do similar posts for each season!

We are far from being done, but there are a few spots in my house that I could stare at all day. So if you are ready to get inspired with cozy, fall, ranch home decor ideas and learn my favorite places to shop, then keep on reading!

Throw Pillows

It is no secret that I love me some good throw pillows. It doesn’t matter how many I have. Anytime I find myself at Target or home goods I cannot help but snag a few more. But recently I have discovered Farm Girl Boutique’s home decor section and let me just say… their throw pillows are to die for.

Changing out throw pillows throughout the year is a great way to spruce up the place and keep things feeling fresh and new. Especially if you are like me and want to rearrange everything in your house 500 times every week.

This fall, I am really sticking with all those deep, warm tones. And as always.. I love neutral. However I have found that lately I enjoy a pop of color more than I have in the past.

My gray sectional couch has always thrown me off because it is pretty textured looking. So finding throw pillows that blend well without making it look too busy was a bit of a challenge.

The secret to a nicely put together couch is texture, variety, and color! Stick to a color palette and opt for pillows with smooth and rough textures. I love having ones with tassels, or thicker stitching.

Below I will link some of my favorite pillows and where you can buy them!

Fall Ranch Home Decor Kitchen Items

The kitchen is the heart of the home and the good news is, appliances take up most of the space in kitchens so as long as you have a few key decor pieces, that’s all you really need to make it welcoming and adorable!

I used to hate when I had too much stuff sitting on my countertops but now I love putting together little baskets of kitchen related items that are both decor but also items I actually use on a daily basis!

One of my favorite pieces I have put together are some of the items we got as wedding gifts. A favorite being my western steak knives. They have brands on them and cool designs and I didn’t want them to just live in a drawer and never be seen. I put them inside a mason jar and stacked them in a basket to show them off.

A key item for putting together a cluster basket i to think about functionality, colors, and patterns. I don’t want to make the basket all just one item, but if you make it too random it will look too busy. I love using plain white dish towels as fillers. They are clean and crisp looking and add a lot of padding to a basket. (See Images Below)

Steak Branding Iron

Tyler and I have 2 of these! One is the letter E for Elrod and the other is in the shape of our brand! It’s a fun little touch for a special dinner with friends!

Misc Items To Spice Up Your Fall Ranch Home Decor

When I really break down how I was able to achieve the “ranch home” look I think of all the random little things that had to come together. I love mixing and matching furniture. I NEVER would buy a matching furniture set, instead I find pieces that compliment each other.

I also really love the look of mixing textures and colors and patterns. Metals, woods, fur, leather, etc. Just a few of my favorite things!

My Front Porch has been a key piece to my fall decor this season. I still need to add some Pumpkins but I am loving what we have going so far!

Another area I really love is my entry way. I have always wanted a big wooden bench to put near the front door and we really lucked out with this one coming with the house. It is one of my favorite things to change with the seasons.
