Time to get into those summer routines! I’m so excited for this year for so many reasons. First off, this is the first summer where our son Stetson is walking, and while that brings a lot more chaos and energy… it brings way more fun. I can’t wait to watch him explore everything around him this summer and play with more water toys, swim, and just be a little boy! We also have our little girl Fallon here who is very much still a squishy newborn so she won’t be doing much, but that does mean that I have a non pregnant summer! I’ll be honest, I don’t really mind being pregnant in the summer but I am excited for a cold margarita out by the lake.

This episode is more just a fun light hearted one where I am just bringing you into our day to day. What my summer routines and rhythms are running a business from home, living rurally, and being a stay at home mama.

P.S. If you want a list of my summer must haves for littles – check it out here!

SUMMER ROUTINES

Our day to day life around here doesn’t change too much throughout the year other than the fact that we spend a lot more time outside in the summer.

I love being outdoors as much as I can, but it can be challenging with littles. Especially at the age Stetson is now at, because he runs everywhere. And living on a ranch brings a certain set of dangers. We aren’t helicopter parents by any means, and for the most part, we give our kiddos free range. But obviously we can’t have him running into the horse pens quite yet by himself. So I’m always on guard when he is in the front yard, which makes for much less relaxing time for me.

One of my biggest fears for this year though, is snakes. Every summer we usually find at least one snake it our yard. Luckily no rattlers, though it’s possible but still. My biggest fear is Stetson is going to stumble across one in the grass and I won’t notice until it’s too late.

The average day for us is waking up, feeding horses, eating breakfast, outside time in the morning. Then back inside for naps, then lunch, then right back outside until dinner. Stetson is such a little boy already. His knees are skinned up and he had bruises from all his rough play. He usually comes up to me with dirt on his face and his head covered in sweat. I love every bit of that.

It’s actually really sweet having a newborn and a toddler. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds. Stetson is so much fun at this age, but I do love me some sleepy little newborn time. If you are thinking about having that second baby… do it! It’s worth it!

RUNNING A BUSINESS

Business is the summer is busy! But this year is so different for me. I’m not personally taking on any weddings and it’s so weird but in the best way. In case you didn’t know I have spent the last basically 10 years as a wedding photographer. It’s been so much fun but having babies changes a lot and I wanted more weekends at home with them. So last year I put the camera to the side and became a full time mama, and part time photographer, and part time whatever else the heck I decide to do. That’s where having multiple income streams is such a blessing. I don’t have to rely on photography solely to make money.

Things like my membership, selling digital products, affiliate marketing, and so on. These are all ways to make money without really having to do much in the day to day.

TRAVELING

This year we are so crazy booked with traveling plans. But with two little kiddos it’s going to be absolute chaos. At the time this episode airs, we will have already made one trip up to Washington to see Tyler’s parents. We will be going to San Francisco this month for a giants game. Plus we are going camping too. And then in July back up to Washington. Tyler will also be attending his friends bachelor party in early August in Banff national park in Canada. Then later in August, back up to Washington. In September we get to go back to Tyler’s stomping grounds in Montana for his buddy’s wedding.

Absolutely wild but so fun.
