If running ads for your business scares you, then you need to take a listen to this episode! I got to sit down with Lexi Wright, of Back Pocket Social and host of the Farming on purpose podcast. Lexi is filled with so much marketing knowledge for rural communities and businesses wanting to grow online. We talked about a variety of things, but dove deep into the world of ads. Something I personally could use some lessons on!

We discussed our experiences with balancing motherhood and running a business. Lexi mentioned the challenges and strategies of raising four children close in age. The benefits of raising children on a farm, the importance of having a strong online presence for farmers and ranchers, and the significance of community in rural and stay-at-home environments.

Balancing Motherhood and Business: Challenges and Strategies

Lexi shared her journey of starting from scratch with her husband before buying her husband’s grandmother’s farm and owning an online marketing agency. We also discussed the challenges of juggling work and childcare, and using daycare for help. Lexi talked about prioritizing and adapting, and we also went into the challenges of scaling back and pivoting in business after becoming a mothers.

Online Presence for Farmers and Ranchers

Lexi shared about her marketing business, which initially didn’t focus on agriculture or rural businesses. It has evolved as she realized her understanding of these sectors could add value. She emphasized the importance of creating business opportunities in rural communities to provide job prospects for young people, warning that without business growth, there would be no incentive for people. Especially the younger generation, to stay and work in these areas. We highlighted the potential challenges of convincing older generations, particularly farmers and ranchers, to adopt online marketing and social media.

There is a need for businesses to ensure their online information is clear and easily accessible, such as listing their location. It’s so important to understand your customer, including their values and why they would choose to buy from your business.

Facebook Ads Strategy: Engage, Invest, Track

Now for the real juicy stuff. Running ads! Lexi emphasized that the choice of platform depends on the business. With Facebook being most successful for advertising and generating sales. She stressed the importance of understanding the customer and creating engaging content. Also, she recommended investing in advertising for at least 60 to 90 days to see results. You want to make sure you are tracking ads performance using the Facebook Ads Manager, where businesses can collect data and make informed decisions.

Ads Performance Tracking Importance

Analyzing ad performance is vital. Such as frequency of ad views and demographics of viewers. Noting that Google Analytics can be used to understand user behavior on their website, including traffic sources, clicks, and page visits. Lexi suggested putting out another ad and emphasized the importance of tracking ad performance for business growth.
